Hemingways is a 74 room resort hotel overlooking the stunning beach of Watamu Marine Park, 20 miles south of Malindi and 60 miles north of Mombasa. The ambience of the hotel is of relaxed sophistication, with the friendliness of a privately owned hotel coupled to the facilities and standards of an International resort.

The varied cuisine is highly regarded, with attentive service to match, and the staff are renowned for their courtesy and friendliness. The beach was voted by the Sunday Times as being one of the top 10 beaches in the world, there being just 4 hotels on as many miles of coast and guarded by the finest of tropical barrier reefs.

All Hemingways rooms and suites are extremely comfortable, have ocean views, are within yards of the beach and benefit from 24 hour room service. All have bathrooms with showers en-suite. There is air-conditioning and fans throughout, & rooms also have mosquito nets, personal safes and room fridges.

In the original wing of the hotel, these are all friendly rooms are as close to the beach as it is possible to be without being built on the sand, they are shaded by palm trees and offer a choice of twin or double beds.

Superior Rooms

Again, there are double and twin beds to choose from in the more spacious rooms of the new Hemingways wing.

These rooms are all on the first and second floors and the exercise taken on the staircases is rewarded by enhanced panoramas of the beach and sea from the balconies.

Deluxe Rooms

These very spacious rooms are on the ground floor of the new wing, offering the easiest of access to the hotel gardens and beach, they have a bath as well as a shower, three single beds and a terrace with table and chairs.

Junior Suites

Junior Suites are available on all three floors. They have super king-sized beds, large baths, as well as showers and a lounge area.

Executive Suites

Located on the first floor, Green Hills and Key West will now be upgraded from Junior Suites to Executive, by providing a separate bedroom with ensuite bathroom, and an open plan lounge and dining area.

The rooms have been individually furnished to the highest standard using hand made pieces designed by Armando Tanzini and Charles Tyle, with original paintings by Lisa Dickinson. In a slight departure from the norm at Hemingways, the flooring of the living and bedroom area is to be finished in a dark hardwood, rather than a ceramic tile, thus giving the rooms even more individuality. Both suites will have satellite television.

This beautiful section of coast boasts the largest number of whale shark sightings on the East African coast. As many as 60 have been sighted on one occasion! The reason for the frequent presence of numerous large filter feeders such as manta and eagle rays, whale sharks and dolphins, lie in the flow of currents in Watamu Bay.

There are 20 Prime Diving Sites to choose from and it can take between 10-35 minutes from the diving school by boat to reach the location. The dives are taking place between 10-30 meters. The reef offers some of the richest variety of fish and corals in the world.

Inside the lagoon is an ideal site for novices and unforgettable night dives. Half day trips with double dives can be arranged on request.

Note: The diving school is open throughout the year except in May due to the start of the rainy season. The best diving season being between the last week of October until the second week in April. Due to the weather conditions, diving at the outer reef is not guaranteed between the months June to October.
